Agency repair

If your car insurance includes agency repair, we'll make sure your car is repaired at the same dealership from where you purchased it.

Ambulance cover

If you're involved in a car accident, we'll cover the cost of medical transport by a recognised ambulance service if it's required.

Actual cash value

The current value of your car after depreciation.

Bodily injury

If you (or anyone else covered on your insurance policy) cause an accident resulting in physical harm to others, that is considered as bodily injury.

We like to say that car insurance is the superhero that helps you out in sticky situations. Car insurance gives you financial protection and above all, peace of mind, if there's any physical damage or bodily injury caused by traffic accidents, natural disasters, theft and much more.

Comprehensive

Whether you're at fault or not in a car accident, comprehensive car insurance will provide coverage for damages to all parties.

Claim

A claim is a formal request to your insurance provider to reimburse you for any losses, as mentioned in your car insurance policy.

Coverage

Coverage is the total amount of loss and liability that you're protected from, by your insurance policy. If you have insurance coverage, you're protected from unexpected events, such as a car accident or stolen belongings.

Deductible

Deductible (or excess) is the amount you pay to the insurance company if you've caused an accident, regardless of the repair costs. You also have to pay a deductible if the damage was the result of an unknown fault (for example, if the driver who hit your car is unknown).

Death cover

If you (or anyone on your insurance policy) cause an accident that results in the death or bodily injury of others, we'll cover the charges decided by the court.

Date of issue

This refers to the actual date that your policy was created. Always have your insurance policy's date of issue noted down.

Excess

Excess (or deductible) is the amount you pay to the insurance company if you've caused an accident, regardless of the repair costs. You also have to pay an excess if the damage was the result of an unknown fault (for example, if the driver who hit your car is unknown).

Emergency medical expenses

If this is included in your car insurance policy, we'll cover the cost of emergency medical treatment required after an accident.

Endorsement

Any exclusions, additions or other type of changes made to the original terms of your car insurance policy.

Effective date

This is the exact date and time your car insurance policy becomes active.

Free car registration service

When you purchase a car insurance policy with Hala, we'll register your car and get the car inspection done for free, to make life a little easier for you! However, all other costs are payable by you.

GCC cover

With GCC cover, your car's insurance coverage will extend to countries within the GCC (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman).

Grace period

The amount of time you get to renew your car registration and insurance once it's expired. This period is currently 30 days for all car insurance policies in the UAE. After the grace period ends, you will face fines for late renewal.

If you need to rent a car while yours is being repaired, we'll reimburse you for the expense.

Insurance

Insurance is an agreement between you and your insurer that protects you against financial loss, for which you pay a fixed amount on a monthly or annual basis.

Insured

When you purchase a policy from Hala Insurance, you are 'insured'. Simply put, it means that you're covered or protected by an insurance policy.

Insurer

Your insurer is the company that's providing you with financial coverage if unexpected or accidental damage occurs to your car, as stated in your insurance policy.

Insurance renewal

Your car insurance policy is valid for a certain amount of time. Once that period is completed, insurance renewal ensures that your car insurance policy continues to be active.

Loss or damage to vehicle

We'll cover the cost of repairs (up to the sum insured) if your car is damaged due to accidents, theft, fire or extreme weather conditions. It's pretty handy since it covers your car's accessories and spare parts too.

Loss of use

This covers all temporary living expenses that you might incur if your home becomes uninhabitable due to disasters like a fire or storm.

New for old

If your car is declared as 'total loss' within six months of purchasing it, we'll provide you with a new replacement of the exact same model.

No claim discount

If you present us with proof of no claims from your previous insurance providers, we'll give you a discount when you purchase a car insurance policy from Hala Insurance!

Negligence

Negligence is any reckless or unreasonable action taken by you, someone covered on your insurance policy or another driver, which causes damage or loss.

Off-road cover

For those who like to take their adventures off the beaten track, we also provide coverage for your car when you drive off-road. Please note that this coverage is only available for SUVs with off-road capability and if it's stated in your policy.

Orange card

An Orange Card ensures that you're insured against third-party liability when driving in another Arab country. Your regular car insurance only covers accidents that take place within the UAE, and isn't valid in any other country. So it's essential to get an Orange Card, which will cover any damages caused by your car.

Own damage cover

One of the most essential covers in your insurance policy. If your car is damaged in an accident caused by you, we'll cover the cost of repairs. However, you will need to pay an 'excess' amount in such situations.

Own damage - Oman

We'll cover any damage to your car when you're driving in Oman, if you're at fault. Please note that you must purchase an Orange Card to be eligible for this type of cover.

We'll make sure your car is repaired only at premium garage options.

Personal accident benefit (PAB)

We will cover you and your passengers in the case of any unfortunate accident that results in loss of limbs or death.

Personal effects cover

We'll cover the cost of personal items including cameras, laptops and mobile phones (up to a certain amount) if they are damaged by fire, theft or accident.

Provider

Your insurance company is also known as your provider. Like Hala Insurance!

Personal accident cover for drivers

With Personal Accident (PA) Cover, we provide lump sum or partial compensation in case of death or injury to the driver while in the car. It also covers situations where the driver is getting in or out of the vehicle.

With Personal Accident (PA) Cover, we provide lump sum or partial compensation in case of death or injury to passenger(s) while in the car. It also covers situations where the passenger is getting in or out of the vehicle.

Property damage

We'll cover expenses related to property damage if you are at fault in an accident.

Policy holder

When you purchase an insurance policy, you are known as the policy holder.

Premium

This is a term you'll hear all too often. Your premium refers to how much your insurance policy costs on a monthly or annual basis.

Policy term

Also known as policy period, your policy term is the amount of time that you'll be covered by your car insurance policy.

Personal liability

Personal liability cover protects you financially if you're found responsible for bodily injury or property damage to others at your home or any other place.

Personal property

Personal property refers to all the items you own and love, such as you car, laptop, TV, and more. We usually cover this under your car or home insurance policy.

Replacement of locks

We'll cover the cost of replacing stolen or broken locks if this is included in your insurance policy.

Registration service

When you purchase a car insurance policy with Hala Insurance, we'll arrange pick-up or drop-off of your vehicle and documents at the registration department. While we're happy to provide this service for free, please note that all registration fees are payable by you.

Riot or strike

If your car suffers any damages due to a riot, strike or any other civil disruption, we'll cover the cost of repair.

Roadside assistance

An important service that's included in your insurance policy. If your car suffers a mechanical failure, breakdown or accident, we'll provide you with the necessary services such as vehicle towing, battery boost, tyre change, and more.

Replacement cost

An estimate of how much a car of the same make and model as yours and similar condition would be valued today.

Storm and flood cover

We know that you can't prepare for natural disasters. That's why we offer coverage for any damages caused by storms, floods, hailstorms, and more.

Sum-insured

This is the defined market value of your car that's mentioned in your insurance policy.

Schedule

A schedule is basically a list that states what's covered in your insurance policy and what's not, including any add-ons, exclusions or clarifications.

Third party

The most basic type of insurance cover in the UAE. A Third Party Insurance policy will only cover damages caused to other parties if you are at fault in an accident.

Total loss

When a car is declared as a 'total loss' after an accident, it means the cost to repair the car is above its value by 50%. We use the pre-defined car value as the basis of our calculation, as well as when the accident took place during the policy term.

Term

The term (also known as policy term or policy period) is the amount of time you'll be covered under your car insurance policy.

Theft

Also known as stealing or robbery. It's the act of taking another person's property or services without their permission, intending to deprive the rightful owner of it.

Underwriting

Underwriting is the process through which insurance companies determine how much coverage a potential policy holder requires versus how much they will likely claim. This helps your insurance provider to decide on a monthly premium amount.

Underwriter

Underwriter refers to the insurance company that issues your policy and reimburses your claims. For example, Emirates Insurance Company is the underwriter for Hala Insurance.

Vandalism

Vandalism is the act of intentionally damaging someone's place or belongings, without their consent.

Young driver excess

If you (or someone else on your insurance policy) are involved in an accident and are less than 25 years old, you will have to pay an additional 10% of the claim amount as an excess.
